At Webrazzi Fintech 2024, Webrazzi editor Tuğçe İçözü moderated a panel with entrepreneur Efe Bulduk, Vircon Legal Managing Partner Erdem Mümtaz Hacıpaşaoğlu and DATS Project Founder & CEO Serkan Bilen on the future of digital asset custody beyond cold wallets.
The discussion covered the questions that still shape the Turkish custody debate: where the line runs between self-custody and institutional custody, what qualified custody should mean in a market moving under Capital Markets Board supervision, how MPC and multi-party structures change the risk picture compared to classic cold storage, and what institutional clients actually demand from custodians on segregation, insurance and audit.
Much of what the panel anticipated has since become regulation: Türkiye’s Law No. 7518 brought crypto asset custody into the licensed CASP framework, with client asset segregation at the centre. For the current state of play, see our CASP licence guide and the glossary entries on staking and stablecoin risk.
