What is a pre-accelerator?
A pre-accelerator is a structured short-term programme that supports founders before they are ready for a traditional accelerator. Pre-accelerators typically run 4–8 weeks, focus on problem validation, customer discovery, team formation and pitch preparation, and may offer small grants or future-funding commitments.
Pre-accelerators bridge the gap between idea-stage founders and accelerator-ready teams. Examples include Founder Institute’s pre-accelerator, university entrepreneurship programmes and corporate-backed innovation labs. Outcomes are typically pitch decks, refined business models and founder commitment.
