At the Knowledge Commercialization Center (BTM) of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, our Managing Partner Erdem Mümtaz Hacıpaşaoğlu and R. Okan Şencan delivered the Startup Law 101 training to founders working within the BTM ecosystem — laying out a startup-law backbone spanning the journey from idea to exit.
The central thesis of the training was clear: law travels through every stage of a founder’s journey — IP protection at the idea stage, entity choice at incorporation, vesting and SHA at partnership, employee options and data-protection compliance during growth — forcing decisions at each step.
Training scope
Incorporation, founders’ agreements, IP protection, employee and advisor option plans, first customer contracts, personal-data policies and the legal dynamics of the first investment round were covered with applied examples.
Why this matters for the BTM ecosystem
As one of the central actors of Istanbul’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, BTM offers incubation, acceleration and mentorship programs; the training aimed to give founders in active programs a backbone of direct value.
Highlights from this training
- Setup: Entity choice, founders’ agreement, IP
- Growth: Option plans, data protection, contracts
