Keiretsu Forum Turkey Panel — Process Management in Angel Investing

Vircon Legal — Events

In December 2016, at the KWORKS Entrepreneurship Research Center, our Managing Partner Erdem Mümtaz Hacıpaşaoğlu and the Startup Hukuku team attended the Keiretsu Forum Turkey panel titled “Process Management in the Angel Investment Journey for Founders.”

The central thesis of the panel was clear: angel investing in Turkey runs on cultural and legal dynamics distinct from Silicon Valley — and the founder’s negotiation strategy needs to be designed around those differences.

Program

The panel was moderated by Can K. Methson (Managing Director, Keiretsu Forum Turkey). Speakers included seasoned angel investors Ali Özgenç (Algoritma Business Consulting), Muzaffer Öztan (Alfanorm Teknoloji) and Hulusi Berik (Berik Girişim).

Turkey vs. Silicon Valley

The critical issues founders must watch in Turkey’s angel-investment process, how to manage the negotiation, and Turkey-specific legal dynamics — particularly the local adaptation of SAFE/convertible instruments and the differences in SHA clauses — were unpacked.
