In November 2021, at the camp of Lexathon — the legaltech-vertical hackathon launched by Turkcell — our Managing Partner Erdem Mümtaz Hacıpaşaoğlu delivered the Innovation in Law session.

The central thesis of the session was clear: innovation in law runs through redesigning the highest-friction processes with software; a lawyer’s product-thinking discipline is the vantage point that best sees those frictions.

Product thinking for the lawyer

Mümtaz framed the friction points of traditional legal practice — document production, client coordination, file tracking, regulatory-change monitoring — through a product-thinking lens and walked through, with concrete examples, how these processes can be turned into scalable software.

The legaltech ecosystem

The session covered the snapshot of Turkey’s legaltech ecosystem at the time, the major global players, and the decisive role of “understanding the lawyer-user’s real workflow” in product decisions.

Lexathon’s organizers

The role of Gökçe Çobansoy Hızel, Gözde Sivas Ertorun, and İbrahim Çivrilli in driving the organization was highlighted.
