Serviceable Available Market (SAM) is the portion of the Total Available Market that is realistically addressable for a company given its products, services, geographic and operational constraints. SAM excludes segments the company cannot serve, such as foreign-language markets without localisation.
SAM is the second-largest of three market metrics: TAM > SAM > SOM (serviceable obtainable market). A clearly defined SAM signals strategic discipline and is essential in fundraising pitches.
