A lifestyle business is a company built and operated primarily to support the founder’s preferred lifestyle and provide a steady, sustainable income — rather than to pursue rapid growth, large outside investment or an eventual exit. Lifestyle businesses are typically self-funded or modestly debt-financed.
Lifestyle businesses are not inferior to growth startups; they are simply a different commercial choice with different success metrics. Many service firms, consultancies, agencies and niche software products operate as lifestyle businesses for decades.
